“Alle malen schwarz, ich seh’ die Zukunft pink, wenn du mich fragst wird alles gut mein Kind” - these two lines are from the song by Peter Fox and Inéz. Following its release, they faced backlash and accusations of cultural appropriation due to the use of elements predominantly found in (South-)African Amapiano music. However, Peter Fox did not dismiss the criticism but instead engaged in a conversation with some of his critics and addressed their concerns. Mistakes are inevitable for human beings, but positive change and improvement requires openness to criticism without letting one’s ego getting in the way. Peter Fox recognized the interpretation of his actions as cultural appropriation, and instead of denying any wrongdoing, took the opportunity to create a second version of the song called the Alliance Remix, featuring African and German artists with African roots. The collaboration not only resulted in a more versatile and sonically diverse piece of art, but also serves as a symbol of respectful coexistence. This inspired me to create the painting, "Zukunft Pink" (Acrylic on canvas; 70cm x 50cm). It serves as a reminder of the power of coexistence and integration and aims to inspire viewers to recognize the value of collaboration in the pursuit of positive change and a more inclusive and diverse society.
